Abu Bakarr Shaw, alias "Tech", is the new editor of Freetown-based Awareness Times newspaper owned by Dr. Sylvia Blyden.
Shaw (photo) left Sierra Leone over a decade ago after he was released from Freetown’s Pademba Road prison by the former SLPP government headed by Ahmed Tejan Kabbah for reasons too distasteful and absurd to narrate here. He, former BBC journalist Hilton Fyle, current Information minister IB Kargbo, current APC Secretary General Victor Foh and a host of others spent 10 months in the notorious prison.
He was Business and Circulation Manager and ace sports writer of the famous Expo Times newspaper, owned by his brother Dr. Ibrahim Seaga Shaw before his arrest and detention in 1998.
He was the London Bureau Chief and Business Manager of this newspaper, the Patriotic Vanguard before he left London earlier this year after his studies in Journalism and Public Relations. He was part of the PV team from its inception in July 2005.
The announcement about Shaw’s appointment was made by Awareness Times’ online edition September 5, 2011.
