Yusuf Bangura Retires From UNRISD

Dr.Yusuf Bangura, a Sierra Leonean intellectual giant, has served the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, for many years. He recently retired. He was research co-ordinator at the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development in Geneva since 1990.

After graduating from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1978, Dr. Bangura taught Political Science first at the famous Ahmadou Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria and later at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He also did research at universities in Sweden before joining UNRISD.

Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in 1950, Bangura is a product of the Prince of Wales secondary school and the St. Edwards secondary school both in Freetown. He told me recently that now that he has retired, he now has time for what he called "Popular writing." A couple of his articles dealing with Sierra Leonean issues have been published in the Patriotic Vanguard. An extensive interview with Dr. Yusuf Bangura is forthcoming. Below is his resume or CV:
