Madam Yabom Sesay (photo), the chairperson of the Tonkolili district Council has been charged with riotious conduct, incitement, and other charges by the police in relation to the Sambaia Bendugu bye- election that was held recently.

She appeared in court yesterday and was supposed to appear today. She is the only female head of a district Council in Sierra Leone. She is a member of the main opposition party, the All Peoples Congress (APC).

Also appearing with her on similar charges was Member of Parliament Honourable Mohamed Bangura. Bangura’s recent arrest and detention was initially thought to be in connection with the August 10th tragedy but that has nothing to do with this case, according to sources.

This matter of the State versus the two politicians continues in magistrate Ngegba’s Court Number 1 in Freetown.
