Reliable government sources have indicated that the World Bank has decided to further assist the government and people of Sierra Leone with 75 million dollars and that this assistance will be available before the 31st of December this year.

This news has been highly appreciated by government officials I spoke to who could not hide the constraints they face because of the slow down of economic activities caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and other factors.

This assistance has also been interpreted by many people here as an indication that the international community still has confidence in the current government. In any case many donors have representatives here who see and observe things for themselves.

The money will go into different projects currently undertaken by the Julius Maada Bio government with monitoring by World Bank agents in the country.

The headquarters of the World Bank (photo) is in Washington D.C. in the USA. It was founded in 1944 and has been helping mostly poor countries with loans and grants.
