Winnipeg: Singer Alaska’s new album coming out soon

Sierra Leonean born, Winnipeg-based singer and performing artist, Alaska, is all set to release his debut solo CD in Winnipeg, Canada.

The ten-track CD is named "I Can’t Stop" and it’s a fusion of Afro beat and reggae in a unique style

Alaska (pictured), whose real name is Idrissa Turay, started singing in 1988 way back in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He has earned a reputation in Sierra Leone and amongst other African musicians in the diaspora for the excellence of his musicianship and the excitement of his live shows - whether performing solo or with his band.

"My new album be out within two months" the PegCity’s local star told me in this interview.

Alaska was the lead vocalist of the the Pace Makers band, a quadriple team of talented stars that shoot out series of hits that went straight to #1 in the renouned Sierra Leone based Concord Times "Gospel of Entertainment" top 10 weekly music chart.

In 1993, the band released it’s debut album - Alaska Revolution - a blockbuster which the singer single-handedly wrote and produced the entire album.

In this new CD, Alaska is not aiming for the moon, not even aiming for the stars. He’s shooting way beyond that.

"My debut album will talk about love, perseverance and unity amongst our people." He continued.

The local star who’s currently based in Winnipeg, Canada, will elaborate about the current situation in Sierra Leone in his new CD. He addresses war, corruption, politics and education in his own lyrics.

A former lead vocalist of the Paradise band in Winnipeg, Alaska now does busking at The Forks in Winnipeg every Sunday evening with a one man band performance.
