Who is Sara Norman?

27 September 2015 at 12:21 | 875 views

As a journalist, Sara Norman has held Stephen Harper’s government to account with her tough reporting. Now she’s ready to take the fight to Parliament as our MP in the newly-drawn riding of Coquitlam—Port Coquitlam.

Sara has reported on federal issues for News1130, CKNW and other news outlets. She is well-known for putting hard questions to Conservative ministers—about jobs, poverty, housing, immigration, the muzzling of scientists, the dismantling of DFO and other issues.

In 2014, her story exposing Conservative Minister James Moore’s troubling statements on child poverty earned a Ron Laidlaw Award from the Association of Electronic Journalists.

Now Sara is ready to direct her skills into fighting for positive change as part of Tom Mulcair’s NDP team. That work starts with putting the focus back on your priorities, including:

- improving services you rely on: better health care, stronger pensions, affordable childcare;

- investing in public transit to shorten commutes and reduce air pollution; and
creating good, middle-class jobs through hiring incentives for small businesses.

Sara has lived in Coquitlam most of her life and has deep roots in our community. She has a BA from UBC, a diploma in broadcast journalism from BCIT, and is pursuing a Masters in Journalism at UBC. She is an avid photographer and enjoys hiking Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam’s many trails with her sisters.
