Who is Margot Sangster?

29 September 2015 at 11:23 | 1961 views

For her 20 years as a social services professional, Margot has specialized in job development, good governance and public health. Now she’s ready to strengthen our community on a new level, as our voice in Parliament.

For two of the last four years, Margot has worked on the ground in Afghanistan, helping to build local capacity among populations there. Most recently, she was a technical advisor for a workforce development program in Kabul—supporting technical managers, employers, and Afghan women and men seeking work.

Closer to home, since 2005, Margot has served Vancouver Coastal Health in a variety of roles. As an educator, she designed and delivered staff training in cross-cultural and mental health issues. As a trained psychotherapist, she offered one-on-one counselling and facilitated addiction treatment groups for people facing criminal charges.

Earlier, Margot was a career counsellor and a program manager for local organizations serving youth and immigrants—managing budgets effectively and delivering results.

To balance her demanding career, Margot is a devoted student and teacher of meditation. For seven years, she ran her own small business to bring meditation’s healing benefits to social service workers, incarcerated youth and others.

Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, Margot has spent three decades delivering solutions to challenges in our community. And alongside Tom Mulcair, she’s ready to take the next step, as the next Member of Parliament for Langley—Aldergrove.
