Since he was first elected in 2008, Don Davies has earned a reputation as a hard-working, results-oriented MP here in Vancouver Kingsway. Now he’s looking for your support to get even more done for our community alongside Tom Mulcair.

Don serves as Official Opposition critic for International Trade and deputy critic for Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. He is also Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on International Trade, an executive member of the Canada-China and Canada-Europe Parliamentary Associations, and three-time Co-Chair of the Canada-Philippines Friendship Group.

Known as one of Canada’s most active MPs, Don has introduced 23 bills and 22 motions in Parliament. His proposals include lowering the voting age to 16, creating a tax credit for energy efficient products and adopting measures to reduce poverty. Don’s constituency office has assisted over 20,000 constituents with federal issues and helped secure over $260 million in federal funds for our riding.

It was Don who developed the NDP’s 5-point plan to make life better for live-in caregivers—here in Vancouver and across the country. He also led a successful campaign to grant Canadians 10-year multiple entry visas to China and helped achieve visa-free status for Taiwan.

Don is a long-time resident of the Kensington area of Vancouver Kingsway. He has fought for affordable housing at the Little Mountain and Fairmont sites; worked for federal support for seismic upgrading in Kingsway’s schools; and led the campaign against floor-crossing in Parliament. He has also volunteered with Tools for Peace, Co-op Radio, Lawyers for Social Responsibility, Dickens Community Group and chaired the Mount Pleasant School PAC. Before entering politics, he worked as a lawyer, labour representative and policy advisor.

Don has been married for 30 years to Sheryl Palm, a speech language pathologist at Children’s Hospital. A proud father of three and grandfather of one, he is committed to building a better Canada for future generations.
