Vancouver African Soccer Tournament. A message from Uganda’s Team Manager

Earlier this month(July 12-13) a very exciting soccer tournament was held in Vancouver, Canada, by the African Canadian Soccer and Cultural Association(ACSCA)and Mozambique emerged as winner. Sierra Leone was runner-up(second). Here is a thank you message from the Uganda team manager Justus Mirembe:

I would like to commend the organizing committee (ACSCA Directors) of the 2008 African Nations Cup of BC for a job well done.

I was wearing two hats during the tournament: one for Manager, Team Uganda, and the other as one of the ACSCA Directors. It was a lot of work put in for the two long days but in the end, it was worth every second of it.

Team Uganda’a performance was not the best simply due to lack of experience playing as a team. It was the first time for majority of my players to play competitive soccer and also playing organized soccer, so I must commend them on the bravery to handle the pressure from such a multitude of talents and experience coming from the opposition teams.

Team Uganda was drawn in Group 2 with teams that play all-year round in the BC-Premier league (AFC-Mozambique and ACBC-South Africa). The eventual winner of the tournament - Mozambique was one of our challenges.

So it was a learning experience for me personally to try and prepare better next year. Congratulations to Team Mozambique who won the tournament; they undoubtedly deserved to win because they played exciting soccer better than any team in the tournament. They have for sure raised the standards of the tournament and I am sure every participating team next year will want to defeat them.

I, with no doubt in my mind know that Team Uganda WILL BE BACK STRONG, so watch out next year!

Thanks,

Justus Mirembe, manager, Team-Uganda.
