The detained Tonkolili district APC chairperson, Madam Yabome Sesay (seen in old photo) has been released.

She was detained at the CID headquarters in Freetown on Wednesday and released yesterday morning, Friday July 15.

Her detention has been linked to the recent Samaia Bendugu bye-election which the APC candidate won. Samaia Bendugu is in the Tonkolili district and was for a long time an APC stronghold but the SLPP has been making inroads in the constituency. The new APC Member of Parliament has been sworn in and the rules of parliament handed over to him.

Yabome, meanwhile, has described her detention as unlawful.

The police have not yet released a statement on her detention and we are still trying to reach the police spokesman.
