The great Papa Wemba bows out

One of Africa’s top musicians, the great Papa Wemba suddenly passed on in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, last Saturday while performing onstage at an African music festival.

Papa Wemba, 66, was famous for his high-tone voice and rumba music through out Africa and the rest of the world. He had and will continue to influence many African musicians especially from his native Democratic Republic of Congo where he was and will continue to be regarded as a national treasure.

Fans that have been following his Facebook page knew he had not been in the best of health for quite some time but his collapse on stage in Abidjan took many unawares. He had been posting many enthusiastic comments on the Abidjan show from his base in Paris, France, as recently as last week.
