The black middle class in the US and Obama’s political future

President Barack Obama and his team probably did not see this coming but more and more blacks, like many other US citizens, are losing their jobs in the United States. Obama has to do something pretty soon...for his own sake.
Next year’s elections will be tough for US president Barack Obama if the unemployment rate continues to soar in his country leading to a hellish existence for the most vulnreable segmentsof the population including blacks.

According to a recent article in the Chicago Sun-Times the black middle class is slowly but surely disappearing as more and more college-educated blacks continue to lose their jobs in the fierce recession that has affected everybody in the country including whites. But at the current 7 percent rate for college-educated blacks, unemployment is highest among this demographic, according to the Chicago paper.

Support for Obama was and remains (for now) significant among African-Americans but this support might radically dwindle if the Obama administration could not quickly find a solution to stem the tide of unemployment.
Professor Cornel West, who was very supportive of Obama in 2010, now says he cannot ask anybody to vote for the beleaguered US president anymore. He has even described him as a "Mascot of Wall Street oligarchs." Some say it’s a sad irony that blacks in the United States are currently losing their economic power under a black president. Many blacks have lost not only their jobs, but also their homes (through foreclosures) .

It is my hope he and his team find a viable solution to this crisis for his own sake and for the sake of the American people.
