The distribution of text books donated by KPA to schools in Koya Chiefdom has started at the Sierra Leone Islamic Federation Secondary School at Masiaka, 47 miles from Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone.
In the presence of the Principal, teachers and pupils, Chief Pa Komrabai Kargbo acting on behalf of KPA presented thousands of textbooks in various subjects including Literature, Mathematics, Geometry, Writing, Algebra, and Science. Pa Komrabai informed the community and the school that members of the Koya Progressive Association in the USA put the consignment of books together and shipped them to Sierra Leone for distribution free of cost to various schools in Koya. The Chief noted that SLIFSS is the first beneficiary whilst other schools will soon receive theirs. He called on the staff and pupils to inculcate the habit of reading and urged them to make good use of the textbooks.
The keynote speaker and representative of the Paramount Chief, Pa Alimamy Kanu III (Section Chief of Mawoma Section) thanked the KPA-USA membership for organising themselves in the USA with the aim of helping each other and people back home.

He lauded their contribution towards education mentioning the construction of two schools in the past and at present the donation of books to schools. He advised the teachers and pupils to take good care of the books and take advantage of the gift. The community representative, Sulaiman M. Kalokoh expressed happiness for the donation and thanked the brothers and sisters in the KPA for their support.
The Paramount Chief’s representative then presented the books to the Principal. Upon receiving the books the principal Mr. Martin T. Sesay asked the pupils to clap in appreciation. He thanked the membership of KPA for the donation and remarked that the books came at the right time. He called on the KPA to continue to support the school.
In a phone conversation the President of the Koya Progressive Association Mr. Mohamed H. S. Bangura, popularly known as Koya, who was a Principal of a High school in Sierra Leone before his depature for the U.S. and currently a science educator in the United States of America emphasized the importance of educating children who are the future leaders of "our beloved country Sierra Leone."
"The Chinese have a saying. If you are planning for a year, plant rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; but if you are planning for a lifetime, educate a child. We the members of the Koya Progressive Association believe not only in planning for a life time, but planning for a whole nation by putting a very high premium on education, healthcare, and agriculture" he said.
