Members of ruling the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) were in Kono over the weekend where they joined thousands of dignitaries and ordinary folks of Gbense Chiefdom in Kono District to pay final respect to the departed Paramount Chief Sahr Fengai Kaimachiande III.

The civic laying out ceremony at the Koidu New Sembehun City Council hall on Saturday 12th February, 2021 was led by the Hon. Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh whilst His Excellency the President, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio attended the requiem in Kono.

The Late PC Kaimachiande III who died at age 86 was a popular Chief who served as a PCMP, as well as a very strong member of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

The participation of the first and second gentlemen of the Republic in the funeral of one of the illustrious sons of Kono is an indication of the high esteem that this government holds for the people and stakeholders of Kono District. According to one Paramount Chief “this national display of respect to the Kono people will not be forgotten in our life time.” Majority of the stakeholders view the gracing of the event as an icing on the cake given the numerous infrastructure projects launched by the New Direction government in Kono including the university where intensive work is ongoing.

This attention given to Kono is unquestionably the commitment of President Julius Maada Bio to correct the historical injustice to the people of Kono over the decades.
