Top SLPP politician John Ernest Leigh(photo) has asserted in a Sierra Leonean online forum that the SLPP pays for the food consumed on all tours made in the provinces by Vice President Solomon Berewa.

Leigh, who was answering questions from a Cocorioko forumite on whether it’s proper for the vice president to use state resources to campaign said Mr. Berewa not only does SLPP business like opening party offices and making political speeches on his tours but that he also does government business like opening clinics, hospitals and so on. Mr. Leigh also claimed Berewa only does party business on his tours in the evening and on weekends.

Leigh, a former ambassador to the United States, said the food consumed on these tours is however paid for by the party and prepared by party volunters. He however conceded that government vehicles and drivers paid by the government are used during the tours. Petrol is also bought with money from government coffers.

Many political observers in and out of Sierra Leone have expressed concern on how the ruling government has been using state resources in its frequent political campaigns around the country.
