Sierra Leoneans mourn Kadi Lewally

The Sierra Leonean community in the USA paid its last respects to a very dynamic and distinguished daughter of Sierra Leone,Mrs.Kadi Lewally over the weekend.

In their opening remarks the co-chairs of the occasion Alpha Saidu Bangura and Mrs.Linda Jones pointed out that Mrs. Kadi Lewally will be missed by the community for her great contributions during her life time. They extended heart felt sympathy and condolences to the family of Mrs. Lewally on behalf of the entire Sierra Leonean public in the USA.

Alpha Saidu Bangura called on all his fellow Sierra Leonens to copy the good examples of Mrs.Lewally. He said that it does not matter what university you attend or what wealth you have,if you are not a valuable person to your community,nobody will remember nor miss you when you die.

Mr.Bangura stated that Mrs.Kadi Lewally was a very valuable person to the entire community in the USA. He said it will be best for all Sierra Leoneans to emulate the legacy of Mrs. Lewally.

In his tribute to his sister,Mr.Basiru Sesay thanked all Sierra Leoneans for sharing his wonderful sister with him.He said Kadi was a people’s person and her death will be felt at all times.

In his tribute, the Reverend Sam Pratt, said Kadi was a "good mixer" because she was able to cut across religious and tribal lines.He also said that Kadi was always with Christians, even though she was a Muslim and therefore she will be missed by the Christian community as well.

Speaking on behalf of our ambassador, H.E. Bockari Stevens, the first secretary,Mr. Mesali extended condolences to the family of Mrs. Kadi Lewally. He also called on all Sierra Leoneans to follow the footsteps of Mrs.Kadi Lewally by making meaningful contributions to our beloved country.

In his sermon to a very large crowd of people from all walks of life, the Imam for the ceremony, the most respected Alpha Kassalieu Macaulay said that death is a form of worship because the Almighty Allah clearly stated in his quran that "every man(or woman) will taste the agony of death". He appealed to his congregation to always engage in good works so that they will enter into the paradise of God,heaven.Imam Kassa prayed that God forgives all the sins of Mrs.Kadi Lewally.

The funeral service was held on Sunday,01-11-09 at the Muslim Community Center,Silver Spring,Maryland and the deceased was buried at the George Washington Cemetery, Riggs Road,in Maryland.
