What many people consider as one of the most peaceful elections in the history of Sierra Leone has ended today Saturday November 17th 2012.

Alpha Jalloh, our Freetown Bureau Chief, says there were no major incidents except for some delays in some polling stations. The votes are now being counted and the results will be announced by the National Electoral Commission by midnight, Sierra Leone time.

Hundreds of foreign observers including former Ghanaian president John Kuffour, are in Sierra Leone to see the country’s democracy at work. We will bring you the results of this historic election as soon as they are announced by NEC, the sole body empowered to announce national election results in Sierra Leone.

Stay tuned.
