The Sierra Leone Nationals Association of Manitoba (SALNAM) with support from Canada Hope International wishes to announce the shipment of a 40 ft. container carrying a shipment of assortments of medical equipment and supplies, as a gift from the Sierra Leonean community in Manitoba, Canada to the Connaught and the Cottage Hospitals in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The total value of the shipment which arrives at the Queen Elizabeth Quay in Freetown on September 6, 2010 is more than $850,000.00.

Mr. Allieu Sesay, the youthful president of SALNAM, arrives in Freetown on September 6, to receive the shipment together with SALNAM’s implementing partner in Sierra Leone, Mr. Ahmed Muckson Sesay, director, of OPARD/SL, a local NGO, responsible for the distribution of the supplies to the two designated hospitals. Allieu Sesay leaves for Canada on September 24, 2010.

The shipment of medical equipment and supplies to Sierra Leone is the third development project SALNAM has undertaken in the recent past. The first was a scholarship program for students in tertiary institutions, and the second consisted of donations of computers to selected post secondary educational institutions in Sierra Leone. The success of these projects depended on the hard work of Mr. Ahmed Muckson Sesay, SALNAM’s reliable partner.

The main objective of SALNAM’s external development project is to challenge the conscience of the Sierra Leonean community in Manitoba to contribute whatever they can afford to improve the socio-economic conditions of the underprivileged in Sierra Leone.
