Simeon Sembu Koroma, a son of Lunsar, is London Mining’s Administration Superintendent – an important role that has him ensuring the smooth operation of Marampa’s general administration, fleet, procurement, cost management, catering, travel arrangements and camp facilities.
Life is good today; however, success didn’t come easy for Simeon (pictured). Even at a very young age things were tough for Simeon: working long hours after school, selling on the streets to help his mother pay his tuition.
“I’ve never looked at what I don’t have; rather, I look at what I do have and what I can do with it,” said Simeon. This philosophy is one that he has lived by his whole life. As a boy, he would cycle many kilometres to school. When his bike broke down, which was often, he would walk the distance so as not to miss class.
Simeon is a man of principles. His positive and focused outlook on life, traits he says he inherited from his mother, has helped him face many challenges and enabled his successful career.
His determination and strong work ethic afforded him the opportunity to teach at LICSAL Business College in Freetown while studying for his Bachelor of Science in Economics at Fourah Bay College. Thereafter, Simeon earned an MBA in International Business from AMITY University in Utarr, Pradesh, India.
In June 2011, Simeon felt compelled to return to Lunsar and took on a role as Administrative Officer at London Mining. Later that same year, he was promoted to the position of Administrative Supervisor and then to his current role in November 2012.
There’s no question that Simeon’s hard working ethos fits with London Mining’s high performance culture. His role requires strong planning skills as well as the ability to deal with day-to-day issues as they arise but Simeon takes things in stride – he knows that he has the attitude, ambition and qualifications to succeed. He is a problem solver who does not believe in excuses — traits that make him perfect for his role.
