A State House press report says President Ernest Bai Koroma(photo) was on Monday officially verified as a legitimate Public Servant on government payroll.

The verification exercise was done at State House by officials from the Public Reform Unit headed by Julius Sandy. According to Sandy, their duty was to ascertain the veracity of the President as a member of the Civil/Public Service being paid from government coffers. He said that the President would be subjected to interviewing, photographing and fingerprinting.

Dr. Sandy said since the commencement of the exercise, fourteen thousand one hundred and fifty seven (14,157) civil servants have so far been verified, and all of them would be issued with a magnetic identity card, bearing their personal identifiable details. He added that during the course of the on-going exercise, a number of invalid workers who do not add value to the Public Service were identified, including the sick, old and frail.

President Ernest Koroma was then given a pin code after successfully going through the interview. According to officials of the Public Reform Unit, at the end of the entire verification exercise, anomalies will be addressed with a view to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Civil Service.

The ceremony was witnessed by Secretary to the President and Head of the Civil Service E.B Osho-Koker, together with Presidential Affairs Minister Alpha Kanu.
