After returning from the inauguration ceremony of new Ghanaian President John Atta-Mills yesterday, President Ernest Bai Koroma today left Sierra Leone to attend the extraordinary summit of ECOWAS summoned by current Chairman Musa Yar’Adua, President of Nigeria, according to a State House press report.

To be convened in Abuja, the meeting will focus on the recent events in Guinea where the military took over the reins of government following the death of President Lansana Conte.

Before departure, President Koroma receieved in audience at State House the visiting British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister for Africa Lord Mark Malloch-Brown(photo), who reiterated his government’s support for the efforts being made by the Sierra Leonean Head of State to improve the lot of his countrymen. The President welcomed Lord Malloch-Brown and thanked the British government for the assistance rendered to this country thus far, while wishing the Minister a happy stay.
