The general public is hereby informed that His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has today (Sunday November 27) left Freetown for the People’s Republic of China on a state visit on the kind invitation of his counterpart, His Excellency the President, Xi Jinping.

The two leaders will reflect on forty five years of friendly ties between their countries and will commit themselves to scaling up diplomatic relations in promoting a comprehensive, strategic and cooperative partnership that would foster economic and technical cooperation at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.

President Koroma will use the visit to personally thank president Xi Jinping, on behalf of the Government and People of Sierra Leone, for the monumental, timely and unique assistance the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China provided to Sierra Leone during the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as well as for the continued support in the post-Ebola recovery period.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Sierra Leone in 1971, both countries have been cooperating at both the bilateral and multilateral levels on a wide array of international issues, including threats to global peace, stability and security.

His Excellency the President and his entourage are expected back in Freetown on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
