On April 27 1961, Sierra Leone became an independent state. In this year’s celebration, the country’s new president, Julius Maada Bio emphasised prudent expenditure, domestic funding of national projects and avoidance of the financial excesses of the past.
He also expressed a commitment to the tenets of democracy and national unity.
Bio reiterated the main themes of his administration: Change and New Direction.
