Ouagadougou: Dadis Camara worries about future

Guinea’s former junta leader, captain Moussa Dadis Camara is not a very happy man these days as he watches his country move towards constitutional rule after last Sunday’s election.

Dadis, who close friends say is recuperating nicely in a palatial Ougadougou villa provided by his friend, Burkinabe president Blaise Compaore, is a little bit worried about his fate when a new president is installed pretty soon in Guinea.

There have been calls for his trial in Guinea by his compatriots for the September 2009 killing of over 150 protesters in Conakry while some Western countries want him tried by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.

The former junta leader(photo) was shot in the head by one of his lieutenants and flown to Morocco for medical treatment before being transferred to Burkina Faso. Reports say he spends his time surfing the internet for news on Guinea and watching television. The current military leader in Guinea, General Sekouba Konate, has said Dadis will not be allowed back to the country until a civilian leader is installed.

Meanwhile votes are being counted in Guinea after the Sunday poll. Cellien Diallo and Alpha Conde are the two front-runners.
