Orphans in Sierra Leone: SLAS to the rescue

27 January 2015 at 04:54 | 689 views

The Sierra Leone Association in Switzerland (SLAS) has established a Fund for Ebola Orphans in Sierra Leone. This Fund will be used to support credible organizations in Sierra Leone that are helping ebola orphans to rebuild their lives.

The ebola virus disease is ravaging Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea and depriving many children of their parents. It has infected more than 21, 000 people, killing more than 8,000 in the three countries.

Most of the new infections now occur in Sierra Leone, which has recorded more than 3,000 deaths. By mid-January, 2015, about 8,000 children had lost one or both parents to the disease. These children are stigmatized and shunned even by extended family members. They need your help to stay alive and enjoy a secure future.

Since the outbreak of the disease, SLAS has supported two organizations (Rotary Club Freetown and Caritas) that are involved in work related to ebola orphans, such as providing care homes, scholarships, food, access to clinics, and play facilities.

To ensure transparency in receipt and use of funds, there will be periodic updates on amounts received, list of donors, and organizations funded. Funded organizations will be required to provide periodic reports on their activities, which will be posted on the SLAS website.

You can read more about SLAS’ work and fund-raising appeal by visiting the SLAS website: www.slas-ge.org

Please make a donation by using any of the payment options on the donate page on the SLAS website. Even very small donations will make a difference in the lives of these children.

Thank you for your support.
