Meet Sierra Leone’s new EPA boss

The newly appointed Executive Chairperson of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Foday Moriba Jaward (photo) holds a PhD in Environmental Science from Lancaster University, United Kingdom (2004); a Master of Science in Environmental Science and Technology (with distinction) from IHE/Utrecht University, Netherlands (1996) and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone (1991).

Up to his appointment, he’s an Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Dept. of Environmental and Occupational Health, College of Public Health, University of South Florida, USA

He has served as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Dept. of Environmental and Natural Science in Lancaster University, UK.

He was an Acting Head of Department at the Department of Chemistry at Njala University (1998-2000).

Dr. Jaward has over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has served as Principal and Co-Principal Investigator in many research projects including: "Creating a critical mass of expertise and infrastructure in Iraq towards a national surveillance system of persistent organic pollutants" and "Sustainable clean water technologies for the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

He has developed and taught many courses in Environmental and Analytical Chemistry.

He is a reviewer for many environmental and public health journals.

Dr. Jaward has resolved to return home on a national serveice. He is determined to improve on the environmental management of Sierra Leone under the New Direction.
