Five suspects involved in the assault of retired Lt.
Col. Tom Nyuma in Bo last Sunday morning, have been
charged to appear in court in Bo.

They are the ring leader Idrissa Kamara alias
Leatherboot, Sorieba Mansaray, Amadu Katta, Mohamed
Mansaray ( all private bodyguards), and Police
Officers Emmanuel F. Kargbo and Osman Sesay all
attached to APC leader Ernest Bai Koroma.

The suspects beat and bound Nyuma on the allegation
that he attenpted to assassinate Ernest Koroma at the
Countryside Guest House in Bo. But the accusers did
not present evidence to substantiate the allegations
and so they were instead charged on three counts
of conspiracy to commit a felony, wounding with
intent and robbery with aggravation of Mr. Tom Nyuma.

When they appeared in court they were refused bail by
Magistrate Deen Mansaray and ordered to be remanded in
custody until Wednesday August 2nd.

Already Nyuma is on his way to Bo to testify in the
matter as the star witness. Speaking to the Patriotic
Vanguard on Monday, he said he was in Kenema from his
hometown of Kailahun and should be in Bo on Wednesday
morning. Last weekend, he took the kick-off in a
football match in Kenema.

Meanwhile, supporters from both the SLPP and PMDC
involved in the recent political fracas in Kailahun
are very likely to be charged to court, Assistant
Inspector-General of Police, Mrs. Kadi Fakondoh told a
press conference.

Already under arrest is Army Sergeant Turay, who
according to the police, fired a shot at the height
of the tension there.

The PMDC had claimed that Patrick Foyah, Sierra
Leone’s ambassador to Liberia, whose wife is an
aspirant for the SLPP, fired a shot from a pistol, but
the police in Kailahun earlier say they have no
evidence of this.

Even though, Sgt. Turay’s shot caused no harm, he
was not instructed to do so and the situation at the
time could have been handled without a shot being fired, according to the police.

Turay is bodyguard to Mr. Foyah and according to the
Police Local Unit Commander in Kenema, Supt Samuel
Sanie Sarsay, the suspect said he fired into the air
to disperse a crowd who were carrying what looks like
petrol with which they had threathened to use to set the
SLPP office and several other buildings in the vicinity on
fire.

The said weapon used is in the custody of the police in
Kenema while a joint investigation involving the
police and army is underway.
