Family and friends of the late Sierra Leonean football international Ishmail Khalil Dyfan(pictured) will be organising a football tournament in his honour, a recent press release has confirmed.

The football tournament will take place on Sunday, 27th, September 2009, at the London Academy, Bermondsey, South East London and will feature teams bearing the names of popular teams in Sierra Leone – Blackpool, East End Lions and two others.

An open invitation has been extended to all especially Sierra Leoneans both within the United Kingdom and elsewhere, in order to grace this very important tournament.

Ibrahim Dyfan and Frederick Claye, both members of the organising committee believe the tournament is one big way of paying respect and tribute to one of Sierra Leone’s lost heroes.

This will be the first tournament to be organised in honour of the former Leone Stars sensational and according to the organisers, there are plans for the tournament to be organised elsewhere especially in his home country Sierra Leone and in the United States of America, where he was eventually buried.

“We’ve got nothing to give him after his death other than giving him a befitting tribute to demonstrate how much we love, care and appreciate him for the services he rendered to Sierra Leone.”

Ishmail Dyfan, inspired and motivated quite a good number of Sierra Leonean footballers being the first ever player to go professional at a tender age.

His skills, creativity and dazzling qualities in the field of play still influenced a good number of Sierra Leonean players – for which he will ever be remembered.
