Historic presidential visit to York village outside Freetown, Sierra Leone

York village is located a few miles from Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. The main occupations of the inhabitants are fishing and small-scale farming. It is one of the oldest villages in Sierra Leone settled by freed slaves in the the 19th century.

A lot of tourists used to visit the area in the 80s because of its rich cultural history, including old churches and other historical sites.

Today, the President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, visited York and was warmly welcomed by the villagers, including the headman. Here is a video clip of the visit, courtesy of State House Media:
