It is sad and very unfortunate that while the Ebola scourge seems to be receding in the neighbouring countries of Guinea and Liberia, Sierra Leone is facing a dramatic increase with hundreds of new infections and the loss of several medical doctors.
Ebola, like a war, can be brought to an end. But it can only happen when WE, Sierra Leoneans, are at the frontline, leading others with our war cries, courage and determination. Let it happen.
I think the government should immediately carry out an investigation on why this is happening and come out with a full report in the shortest possible time. I would therefore like to make the following suggestions:
1. Send a delegation of medical personnel to Guinea and Liberia to find out what they are doing that we are not doing back home; in other words, learn from them.
2. Examine the drugs and other forms of treatment being used by the various government health facilities and NGOs to ascertain their effectiveness or otherwise.
3. Make sure ALL NGOs and health workers from friendly countries work under the NERC headed by Palo Conteh. They should be answerable to the NERC , take their instructions from it and report to it on a daily basis. Compliance should be strictly enforced. This is a matter of life and death.
Ebola, like a war, can be brought to an end. But it can only happen when WE, Sierra Leoneans, are at the frontline, leading others with our war cries, courage and determination. Let it happen.
