Ghana Golden Jubilee Weekend Fiesta

As part of the celebrations of Ghana’s 50th independence anniversary , two major events are scheduled for this weekend in Vancouver, Canada.

The first is a Golden Jubilee symposium to be held on Friday March 23 at Kwantlen University College (Surrey campus Conference Centre, 12666-72nd Ave), kicking off at 6pm.

There will be a guest appearance by the Ghana High Commissioner to Canada, Her Excellency Dr. Maragaret Amoakohene(photo). This event is organised by the Ghana-Canada Association and Kwantlen University College. The topic of the symposium is: 50 Years of Friendship: What Next?

The sponsors of this symposium are: the National Institute of Research in Sustainable Community Development, the Office of Research and Scholarship,the faculty of Arts: Social Science and the department of Sociology of Kwantlen College.

On Saturday, March 24, there will be what is dubbed a "Kente-Black/Tie Gala" at the Bonsor Recreation Centre at 4429 Kingsway Highway (near Metro Town) in Burnaby. Again, High Commissioner Amoakohene will be present. This event will also start at 6pm.

Special attractions include an arts and crafts show, a cultural performance by Abusua Kasse (The Big Family), and a video presentation on Ghana’s independence in an atmosphere of sizzling and sensuous High Life music and finger-licking Ghanaian dishes.
