Former BBC correspondent Lansana Fofana (photo) passed away, after a long illness in the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown last Thursday and was buried the same day at the Kingtom cemetery.
Lans, as he was popularly known, was a household name as he reported for the BBC through out the country’s civil war, clashing with both civilian and military governments.
Apart from the BBC he also contributed to many other international media including the Patriotic Vanguard.
He was once, early in his career in the 80s, a reporter of the Chronicle newspaper (now defunct) which was then owned by the feisty and fearless journalist and publisher, the late Kawigoko Roy Stevens (also known as Steve Roy)..
