Presidential and Public Affairs Minister, Alpha Kanu,
yesterday said five Heads of State have
confirmed that they will attend the inauguration ceremony of
President Ernest Bai Koroma on November 15, this year.

The five are Liberia’s Ellen Johnson Sirleaf,
President Lansana Conte of Guinea, Senegal’s
Abdoulaye Wade, Umar Yusuf Yar Ardua of Nigeria and
President Blaise Campaore of Burkina Faso.

More Heads of State are expected to grace the
ceremony, according to Kanu, but he refused to mention
their names saying: “we are still expecting their
confirmation.”

Shortly after his overwhelming election
victory, President Koroma paid visits to these
countries where he met their respective Heads of State.
His most recent was Dakar, Senegal, where he also
seized the opportunity to study that country’s
infrastructural projects with the intention of replicating some of them in Sierra Leone.

Political observers say the five Heads of State have
personal respect for the new Sierra Leonean leader
considering his decent track record since his joined
the political race as well as his declaration to fight
corruption, a malaise which has damaged the progress and
development of the country.
