Patriotic Vanguard: Who is Ahmed Kamara? Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Ahmed Kamara: I am a professional IT Consultant who specialises in Computer Graphic Design and Illustration, Media analysis and presentation, System diagnosis and deployment and Corporate Identity. My dad is from Maforki in Port Loko. I was born in Freetown. Studied in London.

PV: Why did you establish Newstime Africa?

AK: Newstime Africa was formed to bridge the gap between presenting news online and creating a news medium that is comprehensive in content to be relevant enough. People needed a site they can go to and get all the news they want from different sources in one place. A place they can not only get their news, but also read their emails, have a forum to discuss, find and mix with friends from far and near, be informed academically, express their views about what affects them and become a part of the system.

PV: Who are the people behind Newstime Africa?

AK: I designed and manage the site. The parent company is Techsonic of which I am a director.

PV: Please tell us about your experience in journalism.

AK: I have been writing since I was a kid and set up the African cultural heritage workshop in Lancaster, PA to promote the African cultural heritage in America through journals. I also write poetry in my spare time. This is the first time I am actually utilising my writing skills this way. I enjoy writing and I urge people to come to the site and submit articles to discover the journalist in them.

PV: Any comments on journalism in Sierra Leone?

AK: Sierra Leone has grown, and much of that growth is as a result of the work journalists have done and continue to do. With less interference, journalists can be quite effective in nation building.

PV: Do you have any message for your readers?

AK: My message to my readers is: Be inspired by what Sierra Leone has become. Make your own contribution however small it is in whatever way you can to promote Sierra Leone and make it better for all of us. Get involved.
