President Alpha Conde of Guinea recently presided over a cabinet meeting at the Presidential office in Conakry known as Sekhoutoureya (see photos).

Guinea, like neighbouring Sierra Leone and Liberia, is recovering from the devastating Ebola epidemic that almost destroyed the country a couple of months ago.

But there is hope for the future as the president often points out in his speeches and statements (Guinea has some of the largest deposits iron ore in the world).

Guinea is a member of the Mano River Union (with Liberia and Sierra Leone) and president Conde has an excellent relationship with his colleague in Sierra Leone, president Ernest Koroma and his other colleague in Liberia president Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The big news in Guinean diplomatic circles right now is the restoration of diplomatic ties between Guinea and Israel after 49 years of no links at state level.
