As part of promoting agricultural sector of Sierra Leone, the Fomel Industry and National Industralisation Centre ( FINIC) has recently launched a FINC subsidiary Centre for Rural Engagement in Appropriate Technology Everywhere ( CREATE ) in Matru, Bonthe District, south of the country.
In an exclusive interview with this medium in his Freetown office, FINIC Director Foday Melvin Kamara (photo), maintained that CREATE is to provide agro processing services across the country by using FINIC made machines for agro processing services such as palm oil processing, rice milling, cocoa and coffee processing.
Director Kamara,also revealed that FINIC has developed new machines for for cassava peeling,, palm fruit striping and poultry feed blending.
He also said there are other machines for rice threshing, rice de-stoning and rice drying.
He added that their Food Processing Department has been producing peanut butter, ginger powder, pineapple jam, shisha coal and easy papp.A garrie processing machine is also to be incorporated and it will produce 20 bags of gari per hour.
Director Kamara, highlighted some challenges such as inadequate resources, lack of government support and low sales of their products. He therefore called on government through the Ministry of Agriculture and other development organizations to come to his aid.
Kamara emphasized that he is now tempted to expand his business operations to other countries such as neighboring Guinea because of the above mentioned challenges.
FINIC, he added, also transforms palm kernel shells and sea weed into charcoal..
Some food products and some machines were shown to this reporter in the factory during the interview.
