According to a Foreign Ministry press release signed by spokesman Abdulai Bayraytay, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs. Zainab Hawa Bangura has been honoured with the “National Democracy Award 2008” by Democracy-Sierra Leone.

According to the organizers, Mrs. Bangura(photo) earned the award by virtue of her unsullied consistency in promoting good governance, democracy and the rule of law in Sierra Leone.

“Because of her savory contribution towards the restoration of democracy, the defence of human rights and the fight against corruption in our country, no other person could be better honoured this way than Mrs. Bangura”, part of the justification for awarding the Foreign Minister the covetous award reads.

The award ceremony, graced by members of the piplomatic and consular corps, government ministers, academics, civil society organizations and the press was held at the British Council Auditorium at Tower Hill in Freetown, September 15th, 2008.
