Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All Peoples Congress, has denied involvement in the recent coup attempt against the government of President Julius Maada Bio.
In a statement released today and signed by APC Secretary- General Lansana Dumbuya (photo), the party vigorously condemned what it called the recent violence and noted that one of former president Ernest Koroma’s bodyguards at Koroma’s Freetown residence had lost his life and another is missing. Koroma himself lives in his hometown of Makeni in the north of the country. However rumours swirling on social media indicate that most of the ring leaders of the coup attempt were former bodyguards of former president Ernest Koroma. We have not been able to confirm that.
Former president Koroma had condemned the coup attempt a day after it happened.
Government is still investigating and has not yet announced the names any of the people so far arrested.
