For a very long time, Sierra Leoneans have been going to Ghana, among other countries to pursue post-graduate studies. A lot of high level public servants in Sierra Leone including politicians have spent some time in Ghana either as students or employees of international agencies, private business people or refugees fleeing our devastating civil war. Even current president Julius Maada Bio was living and working as a private businesssman in that country for a while.

Teddy Foday-Musa, a lecturer at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, is currently doing post-graduate studies at the University of Ghana at Legon in the outskirts of Accra, the capital. Teddy yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Sierra Leone High Commissioner in Ghana, Francess Anderson. Here is a press release on the visit from the High Commission:

A Sierra Leonean candidate, who is currently pursuing his PhD in Accra, Teddy Foday Musa, has paid a courtesy visit on the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Francess Virginia Anderson, where he expressed admiration for her progressive leadership, resulting in the massive transformation of the Mission.

Speaking in a meeting with High Commissioner Francess Virginia Anderson, Teddy Foday Musa said as a Sierra Leonean, he believed that the country’s High Commission or Embassy in any other country should be the first point of call, hence the reason for his visit.

Teddy Foday Musa also stated that he and other Sierra Leonean candidates were in Ghana to pursue PhD in various fields at the Legon University with a view to giving back to Sierra Leone, adding that the difference in their class schedules could not allow them to visit together.

He commended the High Commissioner for the good work that she continues to carry out at the Commission and assured her of supporting the Mission when the need arises.

Her Excellency Francess Virginia Anderson, in her brief statement, appreciated Mr. Foday-Musa for the thought of visiting the Commission, which she described as Sierra Leone in Ghana. She urged him to see the Mission as his second home during his stay in Ghana.

High Commissioner Anderson also informed Mr. Musa about the Sierra Leonean Community in Ghana and urged him to engage Sierra Leoneans at his earliest convenience, given his background in peace and conflict and other human-related studies.

Her Excellency further encouraged him to register with the Sierra Leone High Commission to officially inform the Mission about his stay in Ghana.
