A week in the life of Madam Zainab Bangura

Here is how Madam Zainab Bangura, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict spent last week:

- She met with Paula Gavina- Minister and Presidential High Commissioner for Human Rights of Colombia. She has previously served as Head of the Unit for Attention and Reparation of victims; Chief Communicator at the Constitutional Court; Adviser to the Ombudsman’s office in Colombia. Ms Paula Gavira has been involved in the peace process discussions with the FARC in Havana, in particular on the chapter regarding victims.

- Met with H. E Thelma Esperanza Aldana Hernandez de Lopez- Attorney General of Guatemala. Thelma Adana has received more than 95 awards including from the Organization of American States and United States Department.

- She gave a lecture on the 26th June at the Council on Foreign Relations on their Women and Foreign Policy Roundtable series. The topic was : "Violent Extremism and Sexual Violence as a weapon of war and a tactic of terror".

- Signed the Book Of Condolence opened for the victims of the airport bombing in Turkey and paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations to offer my condolences.

- Met with the Minster of Justice and Attorney General of Mali, who my office is putting together support for with regards to the issue of accountability in the aftermath of the Malian crises.
