"Our country is not an island"-Ali Bongo Ondimba

Gabonese president Ali Bongo Ondimba (shown in photo with his wife Sylvia) recently declared that his country is not an island that to be strong Gabon should be open to the world and the Gabonese people should be able to travel to all the provinces of the country as easily as possible.

Bongo made the remarks at yet another commissioning of a newly paved road network near Libreville the capital of Gabon. Gabon is an oil-producing country, one of the richest in Africa.

Ali Bongo Ondimba, son of former president Omar Bongo of Gabon embarked on a massive construction in Gabon in 2009 and today there 672 kilometres of newly paved roads across the country and 770 kilometres are currently under construction.

A new airport was also recently inaugurated at Port-Gentil, the country’s second largest city.

"Our country is moving forward and quality transportation facilities aptly illustrate the progress we are making," Bongo pointed out.

Here is Ali Bongo being thunderously received by Gabonese citizens at Le Bourget airport in Paris, France, where he was on an official visit. That was in 2012.
