Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has announced on social media that the recent federal budget, targets investments to help make life more affordable for Canadians facing real financial pressures and rising costs.

She says the budget has been approved by the House of Commons and now moves to the Senate. She hopes it will be quickly scrutinized and passed so this help can get to Canadians without delay.

Freeland says C-8 will now impose a new tax on empty houses owned by non-Canadians — because houses should be homes for Canadians to live in and not an investment asset for foreigners.

She added that her government has also passed legislation (C-8) that will help many Canadians — in particular teachers, farmers, and Northerners.

This is just another example of our focus on helping hardworking Canadians. And our work continues, she concluded.
