Guinea’s military ruler Captain Moussa Dadis Camara(photo) has announced that he and his team will not take part in the forthcoming elections in Guinea slated for December 2009.
Since the death of about 160 demonstrators in Conakry on September 28 Dadis and his junta have been receiving intense criticism and pressure both in and outside Guinea.
Dadis, acording to reports moniored by the Patriotic Vanguard, says, he was being pressurized by some members of the Guinean political class to manipulate the elections calendar in the past and to even enter politics.
The Brussels-based International Crisis Group, which is said to be closely monitoring events in Guinea, has also reportedly reassured Guineans and the international community that the the junta has firmly promised not to take part in the upcoming elections.
But many Guineans are still skeptical about the promises and believe the junta has something up their sleeves.
