In a statement today Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland reminded Canadians that on Monday, Cabinet invoked the Emergencies Act to restore public order and that the consequences are real. The measures she and her colleagues put in place, she said, are currently being used. They are having an impact, she noted, and that they will have a growing impact in the days to come.

Freeland revealed that information is now being shared by law enforcement with Canada’s financial institutions. Financial service providers have already taken action based on that information.

She pointed out that the Trudeau government is making progress and that nobody should doubt their determination to act, to defend the economy, defend democratic institutions and restore peace, order, and good government.

Ottawa and major Canadian cities and borders have been rocked over the last few weeks by protestors against vaccine mandates and other issues.
