This year has been full of honours and accolades for Patriotic Vanguard publisher and CEO Gibril Gbanabome Koroma. In addition to being invited by the African Union, the biggest and most prestigious organization on the continent to attend a media conference in Arusha, Tanzania, he has also been commissioned recently by the highly respected Mallam O. and Jariatu Sankoh Foundation (Sankoh Foundation) to write a biography of one of the most educated (if not the most educated) Sierra Leonean alive, Professor Abdul Karim Bangura, who has five doctorate degrees, two Masters and has written over 70 books and over 600 scholarly articles.

Publisher Gbanabome has accepted the assignment and has promised to give it the necessary attention and diligence.

"I will soon leave for Tanzania but will pass through Sierra Leone to see family and friends and to start my research on AKB," Gbanabome said.

Gibril Gbanabome Koroma (photo), one of the best journalists and writers to come out of Sierra Leone, has won many awards in Canada, the US (Save Sierra Leone Foundation) and Britain (Tonkolili Descendants Association of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). While working as a journalist in Sierra Leone (both in English and French) he was the first Sierra Leonean to represent the renowned Paris-based media and human rights organization, Reporters Without Borders in the country.

In Canada, where he is one of the most well known Africans, he founded Afri-Can magazine (a magazine for Africans and other black people living in Canada) and the Patriotic Vanguard (an online newspaper for Sierra Leoneans and other Africans in the diaspora), making him a household name in African communities all over Canada. PV is also widely read back home in Sierra Leone and the local papers even re-publish articles and news items from it with or without acknowledgment.

A community activist and organizer, he also has extensive contacts among Canadian politicians, social workers, community activists and Canadian society in general.

Gbanabome is also a creative writer published in several literary magazines. His first book of poems and first novel will be published by a US publisher as e-books in 2014.

He has degrees in Modern Languages and Communications in addition to diplomas/certificates in Education, Interpretation/Translation and Business Management.
