His Excellency Ambassador Andrew Gbebay Bangali, Sierra Leone’s multi-accredited Envoy left Addis Ababa on Tuesday 22nd May 2012 in the company of other Ambassadors to attend the Global African Diaspora Summit which is slated to take place from 23rd to 25th May 2012 in South Africa.
Ambassador Bangali who is also Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to South Africa with residence in Ethiopia is leading Sierra Leone’s delegation to the Summit which will be preceded by a Ministerial Conference on Wednesday, 23rd May, 2012. The Summit itself will take place on Friday 25th May.
The other member of the Ambassador’s delegation is Mr. Keith Mokoape, Sierra Leone’s Honorary Consul in Pretoria, South Africa.
The overall objective of the Summit is to discuss how best to harness skills and energies within the continent and abroad for the socio-economic development of Africa and boost synergies as well as facilitate innovation and entrepreneurship through sustainable partnerships with the African Diaspora.
The meeting will bring together leaders from over 60 countries, African Union Member States, African Union organs, various organizations working in the Diaspora and other relevant guests.
On Friday 18th May 2012, the Executive Director of the Organization of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), Madam Rika Sonia Ndimbira paid an audience granting visit on Ambassador Bangali (photo).
She updated Ambassador Bangali on activities the organization has undertaken since she arrived in Addis Ababa and assumed office as the organization’s Executive Director.
Madam Ndimbira said she needs a contact person in the Embassy whom she can be interfacing with.
Responding, Ambassador Bangali assured her that the Embassy would work with her organization in a very positive manner and indicted that the First Secretary of the Embassy, Mrs. Juliana Hawa Fallah will serve as the contact person in the Embassy.
The duo also exchanged views on the upcoming African Union Mid Year Summit scheduled to take place in July in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Francis Kandeh, Counsellor and Head of Chancery, Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Addis Ababa.
The organization was established 10 years ago by African First Ladies and its objective is to seek and reinforce policies and programs against HIV/AIDS through advocacy, resource mobilization and development of partnerships with all stakeholders at all levels. Within this framework, targeted campaigns on different thematic areas to address the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and children have been successfully conducted in many African countries.
