Transport and Aviation has had a tremendous spurt in recent years following the end of the decade old brutal war in Sierra Leone.

Country Director for Morocco’s flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Abdelmounhim HAILOUA has said in Freetown that the current APC government led by Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has created an environment of peaceful, political and economic stability to operate business in Sierra Leone.

In an exclusive interview at his 19b Charlotte Street offices in central Freetown yesterday, he said the government has opened doors for the establishment of Airlines in the country, especially Freetown where businesses are thriving.

He commended the government for their initiatives, saying, “Another factor which will help a country to speedily develop is if their international gateway is opened to potential investors”, adding, “That explains exactly why Freetown is considered one of the safest cities to do business in West Africa."

Although there are many Airlines in Freetown, one of the most efficient, affordable and reliable airline, according to passengers, is Royal Air Maroc. The magic behind the Airline’s success story, according to Mr. HAILOUA , is as a result of its safety, reliability and affordability.

Since its inception, RAM Freetown Director said, their airline has played a great role in helping to reduce the economic burden on Sierra Leoneans, citing example to the 500 Sierra Leoneans who performed last years pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca. “We reduced the cost for them and we intend reducing the cost for this year’s 700 registered pilgrims. We have started negotiating for two big air crafts to transport them to and from the holy land.”

Abdel also praised Sierra Leone and its people. “Sierra Leone is a beautiful country and its people are very hospitable.”

RAM which started its operations here on 24th June, 2007, has wriggled its way through Aviation among other Airlines established many years back to become the household name in Sierra Leone .

A good number of Sierra Leoneans who travel frequently to America, Europe, Asia and other parts of the world have also commended RAM for its reasonable prices and good customer service. Royal Air Marco’s popularity has inspired more passengers to troop into the offices daily to make bookings; and passengers believe that their services rendered are also second to none.

In all this, passengers say the brain behind Royal Air Marco’s popularity, achievement and good customer relationship is the astute manager, Abdelmounhim HAILOUA whose managerial magnanimity has helped in a great measure to raise the status of the Airline as the best among the rest.

Meanwhile, RAM’s Chief Executive has said that they will put an order of six new planes this month despite the bleak outlook for business travel during this global economic downturn.

Royal Air Maroc, is one of the most profitable airlines in North Africa and has plans to beef up its Boeing-dominated fleet to 50 jets, Driss Benhima recently told a business conference in Casablanca.

RAM operates scheduled international flights from Morocco to Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America and a domestic and charter network, (including Hajj flights). Its base is Mohammed V International Airport (CMN), Casablanca.

The company was founded in 1953. The name Royal Air Maroc was adopted after independence and the company began flying international routes in 1957 from its main base in Casablanca.
