SLAJ mourns member’s death

According to a SLAJ press release,the executive and entire membership of the Sierra
Leone Association of Journalist (SLAJ) received with
deep shock the sudden death of Ibrahim Barrie which
sad event took place on the 22nd of October 2007
at his 129 Kissy Road residence in Freetown.

Until his death, the late Ibrahim Barrie was a senior
staff writer for the Standard Times newspaper.
Barrie, an ace sports reporter, specializing in
domestic sports reporting, was also an executive
member of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra
Leone (SWASL) and a product of the Mass Communication
Department, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra
Leone.

Burial took place on the 23rd of October at the Kissy
Road Cemetery at 2pm and SLAJ members were in attendance.

"Whilst we mourn the sudden loss, the Secretariat of
SLAJ wishes to convey heartfelt condolences to the
bereaved family on behalf of its membership. We pray
for Allah’s mercy and commit our colleague’s soul to
eternal rest", the release concluded.
