Several Sierra Leoneans in Canada we talked to including some executive members of the Canadian branch of the ruling party in Sierra Leone, the All People’s Congress (APC) have expressed enthusiasm and excitement over the arrival in New York early this week of the new Permanent Representative of the Sierra Leone mission in that city, Ambassador Adikalie Foday Sumah (pictured).

According to Cocorioko newspaper of New Jersey Ambassador Sumah, who was appointed to his new position a couple of months ago, was warmly welcomed at JFK airport by diplomatic staff, APC party activists and ordinary Sierrra Leoneans.

Sumah hails from Kasirie, Kambia district, northern Sierra Leone. He studied Law in the United Kingdom and worked for the British civil service before being appointed by President Koroma to the position of Ambassador to Guinea, one of Sierra Leone’s neighbours. He later became Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in that country.

Sumah taught High School French for a number of years after graduating from the then Milton Margai Teachers College (now Milton Margai College of Education) before proceeding to the UK to read Law.

Some APC-Canada activists in Toronto, the APC-Canada headquarters, told the Patriotic Vanguard that Ambassador Sumah will always be welcome in Toronto or any other Canadian city where Sierra Leoneans live.

"He will receive a hero’s welcome whenever he decides to visit Toronto, officially or unofficially, " a veteran APC activist in Canada’s largest city told PV.
