A Sierra Leonean football star has defied all the odds to bounce back from the ‘dead’ after surviving a horrific life threatening attack in London.

Sam Kanu, 23, a former star of English Premier League giant Arsenal FC, was a victim of a race attack by thugs in August this year.

Sam’s devoted mother Linda Kanu, who spent several sleepless days and nights to nurse her son told the London press that the first words that his sick child said when he came back from his coma were: “Mum, I love you.”

Reports say the victim was walking home in Southwark in South London, just a stone’s throw from where 10 year old Nigerian teenager Damilola Taylor was murdered in Peckham in November 2000, when he was brutally assaulted with severe blows and kicks in an unprovoked attack.

Sam, who was in coma for two months following the racist attack, is a close friend of Ashley Cole, the England and Chelsea’s dependable defender during their days at Arsenal FC.

Sam’s 39 year old mum said a week ago: “I just thank God for saving my son’s life and Sam is expected to recover fully.”

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old white man, who was arrested and detained, is currently awaiting trial.
